Limousine
Rental Tips
What
You Need to Know Before Renting Here are some critical guidelines to follow
to ensure your business or vacation travel is hassle-free!
Looking
for the "Best Price"?
The biggest error you could make when shopping for a airport limousine
transportation is searching based on PRICE. In the limousine industry,
there are many variances of quality and price. All too often, a cheaper
price translates into larger risk for you. Most consumers would not choose
a restaurant or hotel based on price, yet people shop for a limo service
this way and expect 5-star quality. If you shop for a limousine service
based on price alone, you will likely be frustrated and disappointed with
your limousine experience. Old, dirty, poorly maintained vehicles, shoddy
service, unprofessional chauffeurs with poor hygiene, dangerous vehicles,
late service, and under-insured services are all possible results of a
"best price" shopping priority. There are exceptions-- however, the lower
the price, the more risk you will assume with your transportation plans.
Check-out
Insurance and Permits
All
limousines are required to carry commercial insurance and proper permits.
Unfortunately, the Yellow Pages and advertising services such as ours
do not require the same in order to advertise. To protect yourself from
"gypsy companies", ask for these from your selected company.
Ask
About Industry Associations
Companies who belong to industry associations usually must
abide by special insurance regulations and service rules. Reputable associations
such as the National Limousine Association (NLA) and the local livery
association are good indications that your service provider does their
due diligence. The Better Business Bureau also is a good research source
complaints about limousine services are not far behind auto mechanics
complaints.
"The
Limo Broke Down!"
Don't be the business traveler which gets the "The Limo Broke
Down" or "We don't have your reservation" story. Cover yourself by dealing
with a reputable company. Shopping on price alone is dangerous. Some unethical
operators do not hesitate to drop a reservation to pickup a better paying
fare.
Airport
Transfer Costs - How it is Determined
To
determine the cost of a limousine transfer to and from the airport, limousine
services utilize several factors in determining price.
Vehicle required: Luxury sedans are the least costly, however can only
transport up to 4 passengers. Cost increases directly proportionate to
vehicle size. Number of Passengers: More passengers, more cost. Travel
distance to your destination: The longer travel time, more cost.
Private
or Shared Ride?
Limousine
services offers two alternatives in airport transportation -- SHARED and
PRIVATE rides. A private-ride is personal transportation for you and your
party to and from the airport with no other stops or other passenger pickups.
Private rides are direct, door-to-door service. (Or, door-to-airport).
Most services offer private rides as their normal procedure.
Other services offer shared-rides where the limousine makes multiple pickups
and drop-offs before completing transport. With a shared-ride, you may
share your limousine with a stranger and have to take a slight detour
before arriving to your destination. Of course, services which offer shared-rides
offer discounted rates to account for this subtle inconvenience.
Affordable
Alternative to Taxi's
Limousine
service offers a valuable alternative to taxi's which can be unpredictable
and offer a lower-quality of service. Typically, limo transportation to
or from the airport is a just a few dollars more than a taxi service.
When traveling with several people and the cost divided amongst riders,
limo transportation is an affordable option.
Can
We Drink Alcohol in the Limo?
The
policy varies with each limousine service. Also, some states and countries
have laws which outlaw such use. UNDERAGE drinking is not allowed under
any circumstances.
Do
We Have to Tip The Driver?
Yes.
The standard tip is 15% of the total fare. If you feel your driver has
performed in an exceeding manner, you can tip more. Some companies will
AUTOMATICALLY include the gratuity (tip) in their total price quote. When
making reservations, always ask if GRATUITY is included in the total price.
If not, you should budget an extra fifteen percent towards your total
bill for driver gratuity.
